We live bathed in the light of the Resurrection of
Jesus. As a Church, we are the community that believes in the presence of the Risen Christ. All that we are and all that we do comes out of our faith in Jesus who has risen from the dead. Our task as such a community is to bring the power of the Resurrection into our world. This means that we have to confront the power of death wherever we may find it.

The power of death comes in many forms - hunger, poverty, homelessness, prejudice, violence, neglecting the earth, greed, despair, anxiety and so forth. As the community of the Risen Christ we need to bring the power of new life to any of these forms of death. Our belief in the Resurrection is shown through the way we confront the powers of death.

This is why we, as a Church, need to be involved with all manner of projects and initiatives that bring new life to people, to the earth and to all creatures which live on this earth. Our task is not just limited to making sure that we reach the after life without being soiled by the evil of this world. It is a much more positive task. We are called to extend the power of the Resurrection to every corner of this planet.

If that sounds like a monumental task, it is. But that is why we are a universal Church -- we are found throughout the world because we are sent to be a life-giving presence to the whole earth. Our task as
a local community is to identify where the power of death is working in the world and in our own
community and to take action against that power.

      Peace, Fr. John
