Sharing the Good News

The Gospel is so full of power for changing lives and bringing the deepest satisfaction, that we as a Church, feel compelled to spread this Good News wherever we can.  Ever since the very first beginnings of the Church, we have felt the urgency to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.  Mission has always been, and will always remain, an essential part of our Church.

Missionaries go out to set up the fellowship where the kingdom of God begins to take shape. Through the
Gospel the deepest longings of men and women are given their true direction. The real root of evil is exposed, lovelessness.  The fountain of forgiveness is opened, the resurrection proclaimed, the good news that the ultimate reality is not the brutal necessity of fate, but the power and presence of love. Men and women grow and develop under the consolation and strength of the Spirit and their whole existence becomes more fruitful. (Dutch Catechism).

We believe that true liberation consists in opening oneself to the love of Christ. In him, and only in him, are we set free from all alienation and doubt, from slavery to the power of sin and death. Christ is truly "our peace"
(Eph 2:14); "the love of Christ impels us" (2 Cor 5:14), giving meaning and joy to our life.

There's an old saying that faith is caught, not taught. In other words, it doesn't matter how much we say about faith, if we don't live it ourselves, then others will not believe our words. It is here that we all are missionaries. When we ourselves deeply believe in Jesus and his teachings, then that belief will shine forth from our own lives.

Peace,  Father John

HIGHLIGHTS FROM JUNE PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING

Our Visioning Session was presented by Jane Kryzanowski. The focus was on our role as Parish leaders.  We are attempting to define the type of leadership that would be best suited for our parish needs and then to format a method of implementation.  This last visioning session was part two of a three part series.  In the end we hope to be able to serve our parishioners more assiduously.

Cecilia Zylak-Hill has become the newest member of our Pastoral Council.  Her role will be to coordinate the 2002 World Youth Day within our parish.  This will include disseminating information regarding the Diocesan undertaking to send a group of young (16 - 35) people to Toronto for the conference.  If you are interested in attending or assisting Cecilia you can contact the Parish office.

A Memorial Fund was set up in our Parish some time ago.  This fund is built by donations from parishioners made regarding funerals and any other events that may be in memory of someone.  Parish council recently formalized the parameters with respect to the spending of this fund. The money can only be used for permanent items which will enhance the liturgy.  One of the most salient items purchased with the Memorial Fund was the CBW III.  Presently, the fund is being used to replace the small sign on the front of the Church with one that is more visible.  This will be used to promote church events and keep us informed.  If you would like to assist with this, you could make a donation care of the Memorial Fund.

On September 15, 2001 we will be having a Parish Conference.  More information will be available soon.  Please keep this date open and plan to attend.

You probably know by now that Father Thomas will be leaving us at the end of July.  We are very grateful for his humour and shepherding during this past year.  We wish him well in his new post and will keep him in our prayers.

    Have a Christ filled summer!

    Peace and Blessings,

    Sean Kukura
